OVERVIEW AND KEY DEVELOPMENTS

- On 2 February, 2009, Mr Ibrahim Agboola Gambari, the Special Advisor to 
the Secretary-General of the United Nations, accompanied by the Chairman 
of Tripartite Core Group, Mr Kyaw Thu and delegates, visited Bogale 
Township to observe the current situation The Secretary of Bogale Township 
Peace and Development Council accompanied them on their visit to Bogale 
Township Hospital and Basic Sate High School No. (2) Bogale.

- CARE Myanmar disseminated the Rapid Rural Assessment Survey which was 
conducted in November 2008.The survey focused predominantly on food 
security, livelihood, shelter, environment and disaster risk reduction 
sectors for their medium and long term recovery plan. According to the 
survey, 80.31% of people depend on odd jobs as their major income. Only 
26.3% of the total arable land is productive. 61.8% of land owners 
expected a lower yield from their land in 2008. Most people remain 
vulnerable for the next cyclone season due to a lack of cyclone-resistant 
shelters.

- United Nations High Commissioner for Refugee's (UNHCR) joint housing 
project with German Agro Action (GAA) has completed their housing project 
for 407 households by the end of January. GAA obtained extra construction 
materials for 8 houses, with 415 houses in total now constructed. GAA's 
joint housing project with the European Community Humanitarian Office 
(ECHO) has completed 511 houses. The targeted area of both housing 
projects is in GAA's coverage area, located in the middle part of Bogale 
Township: Sa Bai Kone, Wea Gyi,Hay Man Nyi Naung, Hpa Yar Thone Su,Thet 
Kei Seik,Thone Htut,Tha Zin Kone,Ga Yan, Pyin Boe Gyi, Pat Pye, Pyu Sa 
Khan, Ka Ma Ka Lu, Sa Khan Gyi, Chaung Gyi Wa Village Tracts.
